AUGUST 8, 2024 — The U.S. Census Bureau has announced a new chair and appointed five new members to its Census Scientific Advisory Committee (CSAC). The committee provides advice and recommendations on the design and implementation of Census Bureau programs and surveys. New committee chair, Barbara Entwisle, will begin serving as chair of the CSAC on August 15, 2024. Dr. Entwisle has served as a CSAC member since 2021 and as a Kenan Distinguished Professor of Sociology, Fellow of the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC.
Dr. Entwisle will head the committee which meets twice a year to address policy, research and technical issues relating to a full range of Census Bureau programs and activities, including census tests, policies and operations. Each CSAC member serves a three-year term.

The Census Bureau is set to hold its next meeting September 19-20, 2024. At the virtual meeting, committee members from across the nation will discuss ways to improve censuses, surveys, operations and programs.
